A DIFFERENT VIEW OF THE SURVEY RESULTS
“Three out of four residents express satisfaction with GRF,” according to the Rossmoor News headline on the BW survey report. The survey asked about “satisfaction with the management of Rossmoor's services, programs and amenities.” What was meant by “management”? Was it the CEO and staff actually managing various services and programs? Or is it being interpreted as satisfaction with the Board itself?

A LOOK AT THE COSTS PER VISIT
The 2009 “number of visits” data and 2009 preliminary operating results for Rossmoor's three most expensive recreational amenities, Fitness Center, pools and golf, are now available. This information allows the allocation of actual costs (excluding items such as property tax, depreciation and some staff benefits) on an actual per visit basis, showing that our coupon contributions are as follows: Fitness Center, $4.39; pools, $8.60; and golf (including Pro Shop) $19.87 per visit.

GOOD DECISION ON POOL TEMP
Bravo to the GRF Board for its courageous decision to restore the Dollar pool to swimmers. That's what a pool is for. I could never understand why a small handful of “bobbers” could dictate both temperature and access to a facility supposedly available to all.

IT'S NOT THE WORD, IT'S THE ATTITUDE
With rare exception, attitudes, not words, are racist, sexist or ageist (in reference to the letter on March 3, “Refrain From Ageism”). When certain words are used as “code” for objectionable attitudes, they take on meanings they simply do not have on their own. An eye can be lazy, dishes dirty and talking on a cell phone while driving, dumb. I have heard that the entire electorate is disgruntled. And passengers crowded into the coach sections of airplanes are getting cranky.

LETTER WAS HATEFUL

In the late morning of March 1, 2010, I tried to board the11:39 Blue Line bus on Ptarmigan Drive. I took a small foldable grocery cart with me because I had not shopped for awhile due to my husband's illness. The driver very rudely yelled at me: “No metals!” I asked him what did that mean. He talked through a phone for a few seconds and yelled again, “No metals!” Then he abruptly shut the bus door in front of my face and drove away.
