Resident asked to complete survey on Evac Pac inserted in this week's News

Rossmoor residents are being asked to take a few minutes and answer a survey on the Evac Pac and whether they feel it helps with their emergency preparedness. The Evac Pac survey is inserted in today's Rossmoor News along with the other inserts such as Longs and Rite-Aid.

In October of 2006, Rossmoor was picked to be part of Contra Costa County Supervisor Gayle Uilkema's pilot program on the Evac Pac. About 10,000 Evac Pacs were distributed in Rossmoor by Uilkema and the Rossmoor Emergency Preparedness Committee volunteers to assist residents with disaster preparedness.

The self-help Evac Pac is a red bag that is designed to hold a three-day supply of medication, along with individual medical information. It is designed to be kept near an exit in the home where it can be grabbed in case of an emergency evacuation or trip to the hospital.

Residents who did not receive an Evac Pac will find them available in the Administration Office at Gateway.

The Evac Pac pilot program has been under way for five months, and Uilkema' office would like to conduct the survey to evaluate how it is working to see if it can work in other parts of the county.

Residents are asked to take a few minutes to complete the survey. The survey can be dropped off in the box at Gateway Clubhouse, given to an entry coordinator or mailed to Supervisor Uilkema's office at 651 Pine Street, Room 108A, Martinez, CA 94553. The deadline to return the survey is April 30.

Uilkema would like to thank the entire Rossmoor community for their participation in this project. According to Uilkema, If Rossmoor's pilot program is successful, the Evac Pac program may be implemented to help other seniors in the county.

Aquatics Advisory Committee to discuss issues related to new covered pool

The Aquatics Advisory Committee will discuss resident identification and guest access to the covered pool at its meeting on Thursday, April 12, at 1:30 p.m. in the Board Room at Gateway. Any resident who wishes to speak on that topic is invited to attend the meeting.

The Golden Rain Foundation has installed four Wi-Fi “hot spots” in Rossmoor for resident use. The hot spots are located in the Mutual Operations building at 800 Rockview Drive; in the Board Room at Gateway; in Peacock Hall at Gateway; and Del Valle Clubhouse.
